"I wonder if you know some good exercises/prompts/meditations for opening the heart chakra, to live in compassion - no matter what, even if other people try to pull you down. What do you do when people give you bad comments or try to hurt you?"

This is a big, beautiful question. This post barely scratches the surface of answering it, but it's a starting point. Because this, this, truly is everything.

Everything that I do here - intuitively, energetically, spiritually -- all of this work is of the heart. The foundation of all of this is to live from the heart, from a place of compassion. Above all else, I believe this is our destiny as humans. This is the energy being here now. This is the lesson our souls remind us of each day.

When we live from the heart, from the seat of compassion, we live in our true nature.

Divine Love is non-judgmental, and that is what we are. When we move out of alignment with that truth (which we all do), we feel uncomfortable, we sense a dis-ease in the heart.

The heart is the midpoint of the human energy system. The chakras, from crown to root, meet in the center - the heart. Emotionally painful situations like break-ups, grief, abuse, abandonment - can wound the heart chakra.

And the first step in healing a wounded (or “broken”) heart, is to love yourself.
But what does that really mean? You can be absolutely swimming in self-esteem platitudes and affirmations, and still be out of alignment with self-love.

True love of the self isn't a surface level polish, it's Divine Love - fierce, deep, knowing.

You don't have to do anything to experience it - it's a shift, an allowing of energy. Your heart knows who and what you are and when you allow yourself to be present there, the truth will bolster you.
Before I learned to honor my sensitivity, I was frequently wounded. I was attached to other people's opinions. One sharp statement from someone else could send me into a tailspin. I wanted to please, to be pleasing. Without knowing it, I honored the opinions of others more than I honored myself.

But now, it's different.

It's rare that someone in my life makes an intentionally hurtful remark, but of course, it does happen. What's fascinating and sort of amazing to me is how differently I receive such remarks now. I no longer take into me that which isn't mine. While a careless word may (or may not) sting in the moment, I no longer nurture or respect the lie that there is anything wrong with me.

This is what being present in the heart has taught me. This is what Divine Love has given to me.

When I look around in my life, I see oneness. I see that we are all flecks of the same God energy. If I feel myself start to judge, I know I've slid off course.

I know that when another person acts out, he or she is acting from a place of fear or confusion. If someone attacks me, I  understand that this attack actually has nothing to do with me. And I really do understand this now. Once I may have read those words, known they were true, but not felt them. Now, it is my honest stance.

Because living from a place of compassion for others is not only healing for others, it's healing for the self. It's in the home of the heart, where we find the strength of vulnerability.

Every now and then someone (almost always someone I don't know) will lash out at me (usually because they hold spiritual beliefs unlike my own). In the past, these attacks hurt me deeply. I held on to them, tried to think of responses, tried to convince people of things. And such an attachment fed the energy of attack.

Now, when these things happen (which is exceedingly rare), they don't impact me energetically. It's just there and then it's over. Because it isn't mine and because I see it for what it is and because I know how deeply loved we are, how deeply loved each of us is.
So if you're feeling negatively impacted by the words and actions of others, if you're attached to thoughts that drag you down, if you're finding it difficult to stay in compassion, what can you do?

First, you need to find what I think of as your heart chakra set point. Sit with your feet on the floor and your spine straight. Place your hands on your chest. Close your eyes. Breathe. Drop your awareness into your heart. Breathe. Be aware of your breathe moving in and out of your heart. Do this until you feel connected to Divine energy - which may feel activated, or may feel peaceful, but will always feel like and abundant well of love.  This is your set point. This is who you are. Whenever you feel yourself pulled of course, hurt, or angry -- drop into your set point and go forward from there.

Next, you need to clear your energy. You can do this through salt baths, energy work, chakra awareness, or etheric cord cutting. We all make connections all day long. We are energy interacting with energy. If you're feeling down or depleted or fixated on the words or actions of someone else, there's a good chance you're carrying energetic cords that need to be cut or flushed, so that your energy is restored to you.

Connect to your guides and angels. Pray. Meditate. Talk to them. Ask for help. In this connection, you will experience nothing but love and support.

There's something else that's actually pretty miraculous. In the moment that you feel yourself succumb to heartache, if you reach out in generosity and kindness, you will be transformed. Do something good for someone else or the world and you will be instantly reminded of what you are: Love.
